300k miles on diesel, but lots rebuilt on it- ok buy?

I am thinking of buying a 30 ft trailer. I am looking for an affordable diesel to go with it, and came across this local ad 1997 f350 7.3liter 2wdrive diesel for $3,700 The only thing is, it has 328,000 miles. I know that's pretty high, and this truck is 16 years old However, the guys says the following work has been done on it: rebuilt tranny, front end, rear end, exhaust, new turbo/injector/glow plugs, tries, belts, alternator, sensors, filters, intake, brakes, shocks, bearings, no rust anywhere on truck I don't know much about vehicles, but that sounds like it's had major overhauls and should be okay? I dont want this to only last me 2-3 years and then break down, is this a safe buy? Anyone with diesel or experience in above repairs please give advice

The 7.3idi was a good engine. If it has had a rebuild then you must keep some stuff in mind. Look at the truck closely and try to figure out if a lot of the stuff is still old. If all those parts have been rebuilt then that's good, but there will be a couple cheap break downs due to old parts being mixed in. It sounds like an ok deal, but it's your call. I would offer him $3400. no rust is great for something that old but watch that E-brake they rust out easy. as for me, I'm sticking with my 02 7.3l.

That;s a really good year for a Ford, I would do it, your going to have some issues but probably nothing major

It sounds like a reasonable buy. You will always have some minor issues with older high mileage vehicles but the Ford 7.3 diesel is a good engine. You indicate you are looking for something that will last for more than 2-3 years so maybe a newer, higher priced model would be more to your liking. You should be able to keep this one running for several years also but you will probably have to spend a lot of money on maintenance and repairs. Good Luck

Have another problem on 2000 ford e-350 7.3l running issues?

It runs like crap til you drive it for about 5 miles it's runs great. I've changed fuel filter, glow plugs, and so on. It runs like crap til it warms up it runs like a champ. Gasoline was put in a diesel and had a lot of things replaced still dont know why it runs like crap until it warms up it runs great.

You have scuffed injectors. Only fix is to replace all 8 which unfortunately is expensive, over 3k with labor. You may want to try a fuel additive called wellworth injector pro clean. I've seen it help scuffed injectors at least temporarily.

About this book
Diesel engines are finally getting respect they deserve. Diesel trucks have always been popular for towing, but their orbit-altering low-end torque makes them great for off-roading, drag racing, and other types of horsing around. And with all the performance parts available for these trucks, it's not uncommon to see reliable, daily driven rigs making huge power. Diesel cars are also renowned for their efficiency and reliability-but they're responsive to performance upgrades too! Diesel engines work very differently than the gas engines most horsepower junkies are used to, so different performance principles apply. In High-Performance Diesel Builder's Guide, author Joe Pettitt shows you how diesel engines work and how to set them up to make big horsepower and torque, reliably. Pettitt uses over 325 color images and technical yet readable language to describe how to upgrade your intake, exhaust, turbo, and fuel systems to build more boost and make more power. There's even a chapter on nitrous oxide and propane injection. As for the rest of the vehicle, upgrades for your transmission and rear end are covered, too. With vehicle-specific chapters on GM, Ford, Dodge, and even Volkswagen vehicles, you can rest assured this book has the information you need.

About this book
U.S. automakers are suddenly awash in profits, and South Koreans and Europeans have gained market shares, while Honda, Nissan, and Toyota have curtailed production following the 2011 tsunami in Japan. Shortages of Japanese new cars and supplier disruptions will likely push used car prices through the roof well into 2012, so what should a savvy buyer do? The all-new Lemon-Aid Used Cars and Trucks 2012-2013 has the answers, including:More vehicles rated, with some redesigned models that don't perform as well as previous iterations downrated.More roof crash-worthiness ratings along with an expanded cross-border shopping guide.A revised summary of safety- and performance-related defects that are likely to affect rated models.More helpful websites listed in the appendix as well as an updated list of the best and worst "beaters" on the market.More "secret" warranties taken from automaker internal service bulletins and memos than ever.
