Engine Misfiring With No Codes?

1989 grand marquis 5.0 i just bought the car and changed all the spark plugs/wires and also fuel injector cleaner (it sat for awhile....it ran perfectly fine last week then all of a sudden it started hesitating while driving it around.. no engine light on. so i had my mechanic came over he said it was missing on cylinder 2.. the spark plug, spark plug wire, Distributor were working perfectly fine. so he pulled the spark plug and it had a little oil on it but he switched plugs with a different cylinder to see if that would change the miss and it didn't then we did a pressure test and it was 170 on the that cylinder and also no vacuum leaks.. he said he could hear the fuel injecting "clicking" so that was working.. anyother ideas? maybe adding the fuel cleaner clogged a injector? as for the oil on the spark plugs i'm getting both valve cover gaskets replaced since they leak pretty decent

If that cylinder is misfiring and the injector was working properly and injecting fuel into the cylinder the spark plug tip would smell like gasoline and not have oil on it. Your injector may be clicking but it's probably not squirting. Something can be clogging it. You need to take it out to figure it out. You can check for stored codes by doing this... http://www.extreme-check-engine-light-co des.com/home.html I would make sure your Check Engine light is fully functional because it should set a code with a misfire.

There is Onboard Diagnostic that should show the trouble codes to tell you what's wrong. Look in Chilton's Auto Repair manual to see how to read these codes and you do not need a computer or code reader to do this. You sure spent a lot of time and money to not have this fixed yet. Guessing didn't help. Now it's time to go for real information. OBD 1.

About this book
The popular how-to series with full color photography, fresh designs, step-by-step instructions, more practical and easy-to-use content, and written by the top experts in the industry. In the mid-1990s, fuel injection was available on only a handful of exotic, high-dollar European motorcycles. Today it is the predominant motorcycle technology. Despite its prevalence, very few motorcyclists understand fuel injection. "Motorcycle Fuel Injection Handbook dissects its mysteries, thoroughly explaining the technology from its origins through its subsequent development and examines ways to modify the technology for optimum performance. Systems from all the major manufacturers are included as are aftermarket products. "Motorcycle Fuel Injection Handbook discusses remapping tips, racing bike systems, and future development. It is the ultimate resource for those who want to master the most important motorcycle technology of our time.

Remember this is the every 4K miles one and not the every tank one. It broke up gunk during that tank and I noticed a temporary loss in performance as the gunk was getting displaced. By the end of the tank I had marvelous response. Do not be surprised by some sputter or exhaust smoke with the gunk burnoff. Worked amazing. The best product you will ever buy!

I have a '92 Ford F-150 4.9L I6 with 135K on it. The idle was a little rough and the power was a little lack-luster, but that's really what I expected from a 13-year old truck. After a while, I started getting a knock that really impacted performance. The only way I could keep the knock at bay was to run 92 octane gas, which was really getting expensive. I went into the local auto parts store to look for some type of cleaner, when the employee said that Sea Foam would solve all my problems and told me that I could get my money back if it didn't. Very skeptical of his claims, I bought it anyhow to give it a try. With the engine hot I put the first 1/3 of the can into the large brake booster vacuum line slowly at first, then sucked as much in as quickly as possible until the engine stalled. I replaced the vacuum line and waited for about 15 minutes and started it up. It started a little hard at first being flooded with the Sea Foam, but while revving the gas, it soon ran very... 5/5 T. The ONLY Cleaner that Worked for Me

I have a 1999 Mercedes-Benz C230 that had ~144,000 miles on it. The idle was very rough and noisy, and the engine wasn't as smooth as it should have been in general, especially at lower engine speeds. The problem was so bad that the engine would almost stall at idle after first being started.I tried Lucas "Upper Cyclinder Lubricant and Injector Cleaner", and it didn't seem to help at all. Then I put a full 20-oz bottle of Chevron Techron through the fuel tank, and it also seemed to do nothing. In each case, the product was used as directed, and the car was driven until the fuel level was very low. That is, I didn't refill the fuel tank and dilute the product in either case. In the past, I've also used other brands of fuel system and fuel injector cleaners, including Gumout and STP. None of these products seemed to have the slightest effect. Finally, and extremely skeptical, I tried Sea Foam Motor Treatment. Works too well.

I wish I had not told a, now former, co-worker about this product. He had an old diesel Mercedes sedan. The car was not running well, smoking, sputtering, etc. I looked at it and told him how to use the product to save the car. He took his time getting around to it and almost sold it to me for 300 dollars. I then asked him if he had used Seafoam yet. He told me no. Was going to sell the car to me in 2 weeks. He then asked me how to use it. I told him to buy 2 cans, replace the fuel filter (spin on type for diesels), and fill it with Seafoam then install. Then take the rest the rest of the first bottle and dump into fuel tank if empty go to fuel station and re-fill then add second bottle or if full already add the rest of the first bottle and then the whole second bottle. He did that, it ran so well he would not sell it to me after that. He told me it ran better then when he had bought it. It also caused the gunk in his tank to free up and plug his fuel lines requiring a... 5/5 O. Believe me ... this stuff really works !!!!About 10 years ago (circa 1998) I performed an overnightexperiment using three fuel injector cleaners. Techronwas one of them and I cannot even remember the name of theother cleaners. Preventative maintenance

No mileage improvement on new car.I bought this for PM and really didn't expect and increase in mileage. Based on all the reviews I believe this will keep my new car running like new for a long time.My car has two MPG meters built in. I started using this additive after break-in at 6,000 miles. I drive the same route to work everyday. I did not have any measurable change in mileage... Not surprised since the car is new.The engine is definitly quieter in the morning when 1st started (cold start). (I start the motor in the garage with my window open, so all the engine sounds are amplified)I will continue to use this additive to prevent fuel system problems and offset the negative effects of methanol...Usage: Label instructions are "2-3oz per 10gals". Check engine light!!!

So, the "check engine" light came on two of our vehicles, 1) 1998 Dodge Dakota truck V6 with 175K 2) 1999 Honda Accord V6 with 145k. I figured it was the O2 sensor on the truck and I was a bit upset with the Honda as we had just paid for a full tune up and then the darn "check engine" light came on. Prior to the tune up on the Honda we were experiencing hesitation when stepping on the gas from a stop, local oil change place suggested a fuel injector cleaning, we did that which helped somewhat. Full tune helped even more, but then the light came on.While waiting for a oil change at W-mart I saw this product on the shelf, I figured it couldn't hurt and added 3oz to both fuel tanks on the Dakota and the Honda. I just drove about a quarter of a tank on the truck and when I started it up this afternoon the "check engine" light was gone! Lubricates well, increases mpg, not a great cleaner

This product does bump mpg a couple percentage points, especially on middle aged engines, but the effect wears off when the treatment runs out. The mpg increases aren't a result of your engine getting much cleaner, but due to less friction between the piston and the wall. This is why it is marketed primarily as an "UPPER CYLINDER Lubricant" (UCL). The bottle also claims to help valves seal better, presumably by filling in any small gaps with its oily viscosity. If this or piston/wall gap is way out of spec I doubt this or any other "filler" will help improve compression much.If there is so much carbon on a valve that is not sealing you'll be better off pouring a dedicated cleaner like Seafoam through the intake. It also helps if your car is burning oil due to carbon-ed up oil control rings. It is doubtful that Lucas UCL will clear major deposits, but perhaps it helps keep deposits away in the first place if used regularly on a healthy, well maintained engine. Ethanol Damage Reducer

Listen folks google Ethanol Damage and see what is going on these days. Our engines are being burnt up due to the ethanol in our gas. You have to use something to help with the drying effect of ethanol. I use a couple things, MMO Techron and this product. Techron is a great cleaner, but does not help lubricate the upper cylinder and this product does. MMO is like between the two products, a decent cleaner and a decent lube. Lucas Upper Cylinder is the "Lube" only, even though it says cleaner it is not. The "cleaner" is a product they use in oil that cleans, but not in the sense as you know what a cleaner is. The cleaner in MMO and Techron are flat out solvents which are very good cleaners. This product has no solvent, and the cleaner is an additive that cleans similar to what calcium does for engine oil. Whether or not you "feel" a difference has nothing to do with your cylinders needing this lube to protect your engine. Bottle (Automotive) I am somewhat of a Royal Purple fan boy at this point. I have to say when I saw this product released I said to myself, "What does Royal Purple know about fuel cleaning?" I bought it anyhow. I use shell gasoline to try to keep my fuel system clean. Additionally, I run techron fuel system cleaner through pretty often because my car is aging and has never had a fuel filter change. I was skeptical to say the least. As others stated this is enough liquid to do multiple treatments for some vehicles, a definite plus. Long story short, I put it in my car after having run techron only a month before and have seen sustained improvements in my fuel economy. I won't be buying techron again. It's not a miracle worker, but it helps and if it helps out an aging fuel pump it is well worth the money. I will be buying more. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 27, 2013

I was previously averaging about 26-28 MPG last year, but now average about 29-31 MPG over the last 8 tanks(so unlike the other fuel cleaners which last only 1 tank). Also I have changed my fuel filter did not yield me this amount of MPG gained.Pros:-It works as advertised. -Big enough for multiple treatments.Cons:-Expensive compared to other fuel cleaners. -(As of now hard to find in store) 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 15, 2013

    Seems to work great

0 5/5 Daniel (Portland, OR United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: 3M 08812 Injector Cleaner Bottle - 16 fl. oz. (Automotive) I recently ran this injector cleaner through my Nissan 300ZX (Z31) and it seems to have improved low-rpm response considerably. I made no other changes to the car and have been using the same brand of gas for months, so the injector cleaner gets the kudos. I normally don't put much faith in mechanic-in-a-bottle products but this actually seems to have worked in my case. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 4, 2010

Great product for fuel system treatment!

0 4/5 CashMan - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 3M 08812 Injector Cleaner Bottle - 16 fl. oz. (Automotive) Used this many times on my Nissan Quest mininvan as the 'CEL' light keeps coming on. It's the 'catalytic converter' message and what happens is the element on the converter gets dirty. Once I put this in on a full tank of gas, drive for a couple hundred miles and voila! The CEL light disappears. Much cheaper than the stealer, oops I mean dealer charging $1200 for a new Cat Converter. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 30, 2013

Local Nissan Dealer recommended for Injectors

So I keep up with my car and every aspect of its maintenance. I drive a 1996 Nissan Maxima which just hit 300,000 miles and the modification that I have on the engine as far as intake and exhaust I am getting about 30 miles to the gallon highway. So lately when i start my car it almost sounded like a misfire for about 10 seconds and then it would go away. This was only happening from a cold start so my mechanic told me that it sounds like an injector leaking fuel into the chamber from a dirty head, or it could be a coolant leak on the cylinder head. That last one scared me as i did not want to have to change my engine or do a head gasket job. I called my Nissan dealer and they said 3M fuel injector cleaner is recommended for my car. I went ahead and got the kit from Amazon and did the steps but did not see any improvement until I did the fuel additive and drove to work and back which uses up half a tank of gas and then some local driving to get down to about 1/4 of a tank. I did not... 5/5 Unreal Photography - See all my reviews This review is from: 3M 08812 Injector Cleaner Bottle - 16 fl. oz. (Automotive) So I keep up with my car and every aspect of its maintenance. check engine light went away!

0 5/5 Sharoyo - See all my reviews This review is from: STP 78568 Complete Fuel System Cleaner - 5.25 oz. (Automotive) Had the check engine light on my camry for weeks and was too cheap to get it serviced. Put a whole bottle of this bad boy in, and the light went away after a quarter of the tank. Either this stuff really works, or it has a way to turn off the check engine light! I try to use at least twice a year. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 3, 2013

(Automotive) Who can complain about STP? It's a great product at a greaat price. We add a bottle each time after we fill up the tank. Our Toyota has over 100,000 miles and we have never had engine problems. I have used STP for over 50 years and mechanics have told me they have never before seen such a clean engine. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 9, 2013

0 5/5 M. Davis (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Gumout 800001363 High Mileage Fuel Injector Cleaner - 6 oz. (Automotive) I used this stuff in my riding lawn mower because the mower would not start. I checked the spark plug, starter, fuel filter, battery, cables, and distributor, and could not find anything wrong. So I tried Gumout before taking the carburetor apart, and it worked like a charm! I would buy and use this again. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 1, 2010

0 4/5 Joe (CT) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Gumout 800001363 High Mileage Fuel Injector Cleaner - 6 oz. (Automotive) I've used this, but it's hard to say if there's any real impact. Some others have said that they say their car felt difference. I haven't noticed any change in performance, but then everything was good before i started using it. My car does track MPG for me. I have noticed a slight increase since using it. This is inexpensive and I haven't heard anything negative about it. They recommend using it every 3,000 miles. I don't think I'll be doing that but, considering how inexpensive it is I may use it every 9,000-12,0000 miles or so. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 28, 2014
